Identification

Male

• Black breast
• White crescent below eye
• Black upper-wing and tail

Distribution

South America: found from the Andes of Colombia to western Venezuela, northern Bolivia and south-western Brazil

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Habitat

Moist shrubland and high-altitude shrubland; open fields/brush on hillside, grassy forest edges.

Behaviour

Diet

The cling to stems to eat seeds; they are rather partial to bamboo.
