Identification

63-71cm

  • Green tuft on head

Male

  • Green-black crown, breast, primaries and tail
  • Brown-black face, chin and throat
  • Dark grey, black striated belly, flanks and undertail coverts
  • White upperwing coverts
  • Irisdescent green speculum

Female

  • Black crest
  • Dark brown body with white striations
  • White face, chin, throat and neck
  • White eyering
  • White upperwing coverts

Distribution

Formerly Siberia and Korea. Extinct; last reported 1916.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Wetlands.

Behaviour

The diet included aquatic vegetation, crops, algae, invertebrates, molluscs, and crustaceans.
