Identification

18 cm (7 in)

  • Blue head, neck and upper chest
  • Dusky lores

Distribution

South America: found in South-eastern Brazil (southern Bahia to eastern Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

This species can be found in forests, shrubby areas, orchards and city parks.

Behaviour

Diet

They eat fruit, particularly bananas and figs, and insects.

Breeding

They build a cup-shaped nest, which is placed aboout 1.5-9 m up in the foliage of a tree or bush.
