Identification

20 cm

  • Brownish-grey head and mantle
  • Dull brown wings and upper tail with dense blackish barring
  • White underparts with dusky spots
  • Whitish eye-brow
  • Long tail
  • Slightly decurved bill

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina

Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

There are three subspecies:

  • C. t. hypostictus:
  • C. t. turdinus:
  • East-central Brazil (Maranhão to Goiás, Bahia and Espírito Santo)
  • C. t. unicolor:

Habitat

Open woodland, moist forests and gardens.

Movement

Tail is normally cocked.

Diet

The diet includes insects, vegetable matter and small invertebrates.
