Identification

13.5 cm

  • Buff supraloral area and ear-coverts
  • Cinnamon forehead with olive-grey feather tips
  • Dusky grey crown contrasting with olive-green upperparts
  • Duskier wings and tail
  • Two yellowish wingbars
  • Whitish-buff throat
  • Ochraceous-buff wash across breast
  • Dull buffy chest
  • Bright yellow belly, tinged olive on flanks
  • Creamy undertail-coverts
  • Broad, flat bill, relatvely small, upper mandible black, lower mandible pale purple

Sexes similar. Juvenils undescribed.

Distribution

South-east Colombia, eastern Ecuador, and northeast Peru.
Rare and local, but probably often overlooked in its small range.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.

Habitat

Found in middle levels, subcanopy and borders of várzea forest, below 400 m.
Gray-crowned Flycatcher occupies the canopy of the same forest type, Yellow-margined Flycatcher prefers terra firme forest and Yellow-breasted Flycatcher is found in Cecropia-dominated river islands and second growth.

Feeds on insects. Forages usually singly, sometimes in mixed flocks.

Presumably a resident species. Probably resident.
