South America: found in Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina.

Formerly placed in genus Basileuterus.

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • M. b. roraimae:
  • M. b. bivittatus:
  • Eastern Andes of south-eastern Peru (Cuzco) to western Bolivia
  • M. b. argentinae:
  • South-eastern Bolivia (south-western Santa Cruz) to north-western Argentina (Jujuy and Salta)

M. b. roraimae is sometimes split as Roraima Warbler[2].

Dense understorey of humid montane forests and cloud forests.

Little recorded but it is thought their diet consists almost entirely of invertebrates, generally gleaned in the undergrowth.
