Identification
With 22 - 25 cm a medium-sized Turdoides-babbler:
- Greyish-brown plumage
- White hood
- Black bill
Distribution
Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan.
Reported to be common in Sudan and frequent in Eritrea and Ethiopia.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Sometimes considered to form a superspecies with Brown Babbler and Arrow-marked Babbler or to be conspecific with one of them.
The scientific name has been spelled Turdoides leucocephalus in the past.
Habitat
Dry acacia woodland and dense riverine scrub. Usually below 1000m.
Behaviour
Feeds on insects. Usually seen in groups of 5 to 6 birds, sometimes more.
Breeding season from May to June in Eritrea. No other information.
