Identification

19–20 cm (7½-8 in)

  • Mostly white head
  • Brownish-grey back
  • White rump
  • White stripe on blackish wings visible in flight

South America: found in eastern Brazil, north-eastern Paraguay and eastern Bolivia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Dry savanna, with scattered trees and bushes, pastureland, usually near water.

Behaviour

Diet

Consists mostly of flying insects. They are usually seen in pairs, perched on wires, fence posts on top of bushes etc.
