• Pale yellow (almost white) belly
• Black hood
• Olive-brown upperparts
• Light bluish-grey bill

Central and South America:
Central America: found in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
Caribbean (West Indies): Lesser Antilles, Windward Islands, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada
South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies^[1]:

• S. n. nigricollis:

• Southern Costa Rica to north-eastern Argentina, Brazil, Trinidad, Tobago and Grenada

• S. n. vivida:

• South-western Colombia (Nariño) and western Ecuador

• S. n. inconspicua:

• Andes of Peru (south to Cuzco)

Habitat

Grassy areas, or shrubby clearings and agricultural land.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists almost entirely of grass seeds.
