Identification

9-11cm

  • Blackish forehead and crown
  • Silver underparts
  • Olive green back
  • Brown iris
  • Black bill and feet.

Distribution

Southeast Asia: found in Sumatra, Malay Peninsula, and Borneo.

Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

There are 2 subspecies:

  • Z. a. viridicatus:
  • Z. a. atricapilla:
  • Mountains of central and southern Sumatra and northern Borneo (Mount Kinabalu)

Habitat

Mountain forests and alpine meadows in altitudes between 700 and 3000 m.

Behaviour

Breeding

They nest in trees and lay 2-4 unspotted pale blue eggs.

Diet

The diet includes mainly insects, but nectar and fruit are also taken.
