Greece, Corfu

Overview

Situated at the far north-western tip of the island, this saltwater lagoon is the best-known wetland area on Corfu. Reedbeds surround the lake and there are sand-dunes to the north and some woodland on the southern edge.

Birds

Notable Species

For birders the area is most productive during passage periods and attracts a variety of herons including Squacco and Little Bittern, also Glossy Ibis and waders such as Temminck's Stint.

Other migrants include marsh terns, Red-footed Falcon and Red-throated Pipit. Collared and Semi-collared Flycatchers occur on passage as well as Olive-tree Warbler and Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin.

Andinioti lies close to the main coast road 9km west of Kassiopi and can be viewed from tracks around the lake. Accommodation is plentiful on this popular holiday island with cheap package deals and flights.
