Identification

21 cm
Male

  • Head, neck and throat are black
  • Olive-green upperparts
  • Breast is paler
  • Underparts are more yellow, with slight dusky barring
  • Short dark bill
  • Red iris

Female - similar with olive on crown and sides of head.

Similar species

Hooded Berryeater is found at higher elevation.

Distribution

South America: found in coastal south-eastern Brazil (Alagoas and eastern Bahia to north-eastern Paraná)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Moist lowland forests.

Behaviour

The diet includes fruit.
