Identification

Male

• Dark grey upperparts
• Grey underparts
• Black wings and tail.

• Paler
• Faint barring on underside.

Distribution

Pakistan, India, NE Myanmar, China and southeast Asia.

Taxonomy

There are 4 subspecies.

• C. m. melaschistos: Northern Pakistan, Himalayas and north-eastern Indian subcontinent
• C. m. avensis: Western China to central and southern Myanmar, northern Thailand and northern Vietnam
• C. m. intermedia: Central and southern China and Taiwan
• C. m. saturata: Northern Vietnam and Hainan

Habitat

Open forest and groves.

Behaviour

The diet includes invertebrates.
