African Islands: Gulf of Guinea Islands, Bioko (Fernando Po)
Formerly placed in genus Alethe and in Pseudalethe by Clements. However, Chamaetylas has priority over Pseudalethe.
There are 10 subspecies:
Subspecies nandensis is not recognised by all authorities.
