Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Ecuador Peru, Bolivia and Brazil
Taxonomy
There are 4 or 5 subspecies[1], [2]:
- X. e. buenavistae:
- Eastern slope of East Andes of Colombia in upper Orinoco drainage
- X. e. ornatus:
- X. e. insignis:
- Foothills of east-central Peru (south of Río Marañón)
- X. e. elegans:
- Brazil south of the Amazon and northern Bolivia
- X. e. juruanus: sometimes split as Spix's Woodcreeper
- South-eastern Peru to north-eastern Bolivia and western Brazil (west of Rio Madeira)
Habitat
Lowland humid forest.
