Identification

14-15cm.

  • Brown upperparts
  • Buff underparts (no breast band)
  • Square tail has white spots

Distribution

Widely distributed from Europe to Asia, Arabia and India.

Previously in genus Hirundo.

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Rocky outcrops, cliffs and alpine villages.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects which are hawked aerially.

Breeding

Its nest is built from mud and is placed under overhanging cliffs. The clutch consists of 3-5 eggs.
