Identification

- Bright orange-rufous head and throat
- Olive-brown upperparts and tail
- Brown wings
- Narrow white crescent across lower breast
- Pale grey breast and belly
- White centre of breast and belly
- venezuelana with more olivaceous breast and pale yellowish centre of belly
- Dark brown eye
- Orange bill
- Greyish tarsi
Sexes similar. Juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
Very locally in Colombia and Venezuela.
An uncommon to fairly common restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
Subspecies[1]

- Central and Eastern Andes of Colombia
- G. c. venezuelana:
Habitat
Undergrowth of dense humid montane forest. Occurs at 1800 - 2135m, locally possibly also lower and higher.
Behaviour
Feeds on insects.
Forages usually solitary, hopping low through vegetation. Often rocks body from side to side without moving head.
Females ready to lay eggs were collected in September and July. No other data about breeding.
Presumably a sedentary species.
