Identification
Long white supercilium and black with white streaks around the ear. Brown-grey crown and nape, upperparts rufous brown, white throat, becoming grey and buffy lower down and the tail has black barring.
Distribution
Brazil (south of the Amazon River) and Amazonian Peru and Bolivia.
Taxonomy
Four subspecies are recognized.
A proposal has been put forward to place this species in genus Pheugopedius.
This species have in the past been thought to include Whiskered Wren, but from sound may actually be closer related to Coraya Wren.
Habitat
Forest, woodland, dense undergrowth near bamboo.
Behaviour
Mostly in pairs or small, species-specific groups.
