Identification
Black-and-white barred back, wings, and outer tail, white undersides with spotted flanks, red crown and a black-and-white striped face.

A monotypic species.
Habitat
Oak woodlands.
Behaviour
Nest holes are excavated in trees. 3-6 eggs are laid and then incubated by both parents for about two weeks.
Diet includes insects such as beetles, caterpillars, ants, and bugs.
