Identification

Sandy-brown overall with rufous wings, heavy black conical bill, black legs and eyes, dusky area around eye and dark lores.
Distribution
South America: found in northeast Brazil.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Formerly considered conspecific with Grayish Baywing.
Habitat
Semi-open habitats, including scrub and light woodland.
Behaviour
Breeding
It sometimes builds its own nest or uses those of other birds. It is a victim of brood parasitism by other cowbirds mainly the Screaming Cowbird Molothrus rufoaxillaris.
Diet
Their main diet consists of seeds (particularly maize) and arthropods. A group was once observed trying to catch a lizard.
