Length 18 cm. Forecrown and eye-stripe dark grey, hindcrown and nape chestnut, supercilium white. Wings and tail dark grey with white wing-bar, back pale grey. Underparts white with buffy wash on flanks.

Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia.

[edit] Subspecies

Laniarius ruficeps has three subspecies:[1]

  • L. r. rufinuchalis
  • L. r. ruficeps
  • L. r. kismayensis

Dry shrubland and thicket.

A "skulker", keeping low in bushes unless singing.

A repeated creeo creeo (duet); also a scolding churr.
