Identification

32 cm. Lichen-grey, barred and streaked with buff, chestnut and black, barred under parts. Both sexes have white wing spots, tail sides and throat.

Distribution

Iberia and north Africa.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Open sandy heaths with trees or bushes.

Behaviour

It makes no nest; 2 elongated and elliptical eggs are placed upon the bare ground.
