Rufous-vented Chachalaca - BirdForum Opus

Location: Arnos Vale, Tobago

Identification

53-58cm. Dull plumage, dark brown above and paler below. The head is grey, and the brown tail is tipped rufous or white depending on race.

Distribution

Northeast Colombia, northern Venezuela and Tobago.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Open dry scrubland.

Behaviour

The twig nest is built low in a tree, and 3-4 large white eggs are laid. The female incubates them alone.

Its diet includes fruit and seeds.
