Identification
23.5 cm long. Sexes similar. Habitat
Coastal plains and watercourses and open, lightly-timbered areas.
Behaviour
The diet includes nectar and pollen, blossoms, berries, other fruit, seeds, and insects and their larvae. They are fond of cultivated fruits and can cause damage in orchards.
They nest in hollow trees, high above the ground; the nest is lined with a layer of wood dust. 2 white, oval eggs are laid and incubated by the female for about 25 days. Both parents feed the young, which leave the nest six to eight weeks after hatching.
