What Canon binoculars does Chris Packham use? (1 Viewer)

This primarily for UK based members. I was watching Winter Watch onTV last night and noticed Chris was using Canon binoculars, but they didn't look like IS binoculars.

Can anyone enlighten me

They aren’t canon, I did find the model a few series ago, not one I’d come across before. Pity he’s not using the 10x42IS, but maybe weighty for carrying about a lot.

There is an advert I've just checked where he is endorsing and wearing a Canon 10 x 32 IS. This I think is what was in last nights clip, on reflection.

He stopped endorsing brands that had links and products associated with h*nting.

I didn't see last night's episode but I saw him using Kowas a few days ago, They've got red stripes on them,
As have the Canon 10 x 42.
Edit..... have seen images of him using both brands, let's see what or if tonight reveals a pair.

The BBC guidelines prohibit presenters using products where they have a promotional tie in to the manufacturer. Same goes for clothing. There was clampdown some years back when Kate Humble was wearing clothes from the "Kate Humble range", can't remember which manufacturer it was. I also think one of the reasons that Simon King left Springwatch was that he had a contract with Zeiss that he would always been seen using their products but the BBC wouldn't allow him to.

Yes, at one time at least, he used Canon 10x32 IS. Link to Canon here. Scroll to about halfway down. ""I use 10x32 Image Stabiliser binoculars and they are the best I've ever had. They enable me to do something I previously couldn't do – identify smaller things further away. All those little intricacies which allow us to identify species become instantaneously clear. For me, using Canon is the perfect synergy of ethics and top quality."

I found a pic of him with Canons, accompanied by someone using bins with the red stripe, which will be Kowas (not attached because of potential copyright issues!).

I didn't know Canon had h*nting links. Swarovski, of course, produce rangefinder bins for that particular activity. I don't like it, but admit to owning EL SV 10x42s as well as the Canon 10x32s.

Whilst Packham certainly wears a lot of Mountain Equipment jackets, I can't find any promotional stuff he's done. Chris has his own range of clothing https://www.chrispackham.co.uk/chris-packham-clothing#

From the BBC guidelines:-

15.3.36 No on-air talent should promote products, goods, services or clothing they use on air. On-air talent, in any genre, engaged by the BBC must not accept clothing or products free, or at considerably reduced cost, in exchange for wearing or using them on air. Nor should they appear on air wearing clothes or using products, goods or services which they have agreed, or been contracted, to promote or in which they have any financial interest.
