Nikon 8 x 32 HG L bridge tension (1 Viewer)

Hi all
I've just picked up a pair of these for a reasonable 2nd price as a car binocular but there isn't enough tension in the bridge and I need to constantly readjust. I've seen on a couple of threads on here that it is possible to adjust these by removing the cover on the objective end of the bridge and tightening with a specific tool. Does anyone have any insight on this and whether its safe to try this at home or better to get an expert like East Coast Binocular repairs to do so. Thanks in advance.

I read the same threads, pried off the cap, bought several tools, but none was robust enough to turn the part to tighten. The holes for the pin spanner are extremely small, so small pins on tools have a tendency to bend or break off. I couldn't find a premium quality tool to match the size. One used to be available (found in internet search) but seems not to exist anymore.

I have done so on my LX/L 10X42 and Nikon Premier 8X42. Used an adhesive to glue the plastic hinge cover back on.

If there is a setscrew between the 2 holes for the pin spanner, loosen the setscrew quite a bit as the setscrew locks the brass or aluminum cap from turning . Pat

Thanks all for advice. That tool link was US delivery only but I'll see if I can find similar in UK.

Good luck. Wouldn't work for me. There is no set screw, but I can't get it to budge.

I decided to send to Gary at East Coast binoculars and they advise no further adjustment in it so its pretty unusable on that basis. It'll be heading back to the seller under the 14 day return policy. A shame as decent pair of bins.
