Hi everyone, Just joined the site, love watching our feathered friends as well as making sure there is plenty of food for them to eat. Had a bird of prey land on our birdbath in the garden which I have never had happen before. Thought it was a kestrel at first but not so sure now. Will attach a pic of it but you will have to zoom in on it as I was a fair distance from it. Would love to know what it is, it is becoming a regular visitor.
Many thanks for taking your time to read this.
Daz

Woww a sparrow hawk…I did check through the bird checker sites but thought no it can’t be… thank you for your help, much appreciated.

Hi Daz and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

Indeed your new visitor is a Eurasian Sparrowhawk, which shows that you have a healthy population of birds in your area. He will, unfortunately, eat some of your bird feeder visitors. It's interesting to watch the behaviour of your garden birds when one is around as all the birds freeze; that's when you look for him. Either that or they all fly together into the nearest bush or tree.

You can read more about them here in our Opus article: Eurasian Sparrowhawk - BirdForum Opus

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
