What type of tortoise is this ( near canal near Syracuse NY): (1 Viewer)

This tortoise hangs near and in a murky canal (Ledyard) 5 miles from Syracuse NY. What type do you think it is. The shell is flat-ish not very domed shaped. Tail looks like a dinosaur's. Not aggressive-just kind of hangs out and does not seem bothered or interested in the ducks that inhabit the same canal. Any information would be greatly appreciated. He's been around for at least about 7 years or there's another one that looks very similar. But I've only seen one at a time. He was sunning himself but then after a while slinked back into the canal-not winning any racing awards and not seeming unhappy or aggressive. Just meandering.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I think so too. He was not aggressive and didn't seem the least bit interested in 9 ducklings that came close to him. Wisely they didn't get very close. Thanks again!
