Swift Neptune 7x35 AND Swift Nighthawk 7x50 with nice condition cases buried in listing....plus a nice camera gear case and Canon FT and some lenses and a Garmin GPS 176c. Probably go for real cheap, advertised very poorly...thought some of you might be interested.

We do have UPS trucks running well in the snow but some of the main ground routes across the country (e.g. I-84 into Portland, OR) might be a bit of a challenge right now.

But I've not given up hope yet. Hey, it's like waiting for Santa ;)

Santa in Brown (and with a beard too ... and not my usual guy!) arrived today and delivered the Legends.

This originated in LENEXA,KS on 12/18/2008. And made it onto the delivery truck on Boxing Day but returned to base due to snow.

One other note on the shipping is Bushnell just use crushed paper (no peanuts) in a small box for shipping. Obviously they know now much of a bumping the bins can take in shipping.

I notice on the packaging that they say they now use a Magnesium enclosure with locking dipter setting, new twist-up eyecups.

They look fine. They seem to have the now traditional "Bushnell diopter offset". They were a "not right" when I just zeroed it: my corrected eyes have no or little offset. But after dialing in the offset they look fine. The same sort of "clear/white" view I recall from 8x26 Legends: no hint of a cold/bluish (Diamondback/Excursion/WP), warm/yellowish or reddish (HS) tint.

The narrow 6.3 degree FOV surprised me: I've got so used to Bushnell's having a medium or wide FOV. But it's in the spec just not in my head! That might also help these to deal with off-axis stray light.

So, the reason for posting, is that others in the top left corner of the USA should be expecting these too.

Still have one FedEx package stuck in the warehouse in Seattle ... apparently 40,000 packages to catch up on due to the snow. ETA ... maybe 3 days.

These might not be a bargain at any price....but I leave that to the gallery.

Bushnell 10 x 28 Explorer Waterproof Binoculars $16 @Amazon

Looks like they are good for

10x28 binoculars while hunting, fishing or hiking
so obviously no good for birds.

Darn it Tero. I was just going to buy a pair until you posted that.

;-)

Perhaps I'm in the wrong thread, but there are some tremendous bargains out there in the used binocular category, particularly those made by Bushnell in the 50s & 60s. I refer specifically to the model called the featherlight, either CF or IF. I came across an 8x40 IF for $15.00 in mint condition a few months ago. While the coatings are older and the colors not as intense, the resolution and FOV are outstanding, rivaling any current high end stuff. The individual focus models tend to be very clear, and unless they have been in the topics, they are free from haze and fungus. Even the center focus featherlight models are very good. For a knock around binocular, something to lend to your brother-in-law, etc. these old Bushnell porros are worth picking up. John

Tero Monday 12th January 2009 21:00

No this is the place, but give us a link where you saw them. IF models are not very popular with birders. But we have all kinds of nuts here.

FrankD Tuesday 13th January 2009 00:08

John,

That is two good bits of advice you have passed on in less than 24 hours. For $15 I think I can afford a few now that I know what to look for. ;)

Vivitar 8x26 PV Reverse Porro $15.95 plus shipping $24.95 total with UPS Ground for me.

They must have found a few more boxes of this one. It was around for a while then disappeared from the web site.

Eagle Optics Raptor 10x42 Binoculars - Discontinued for $90.

These the Vixen Foresta porros (previous model). Very nice porros for the price with a wide 6.5 degree FOV. Same enclosure as the Audubon 820 (different optics ... in particular a different EP).

If anyone knows of a used Eagle Optics Raptor 8x42 or a Vixen Foresta 8x42 porro let me know. I'm interested!

Re: Deal on the Bushnell Legend roof from Sports Authority.

Excuse me for being a "compulsive compulsive", but my credit card has not been "hit" for the charges for this "deal"

Has anyone who has been this lucky have any comments on this situation??

Make that two of us. ;)

Scoutman,

I wasn't one of the ones that initially took advantage of that situation. I do know that several people did "cash in" on it. One of them purchased two and is sending one my way. As for them not being charged on their credit card.....I cannot comment.

It seems that they're system is seriously messed up ... I'm pretty sure that Bushnell will bill SA for the bins ;)

I didn't see it on my last CC billing but though it missed the cutoff date. I'll check my next bill to see if they've figured it out.

Other than that I'm not too sure what to do? Interact with their automated CS system to explain to them that they've made a mistake in not billing me. Sounds like this game I once played ...

Uh, yeah...I would definitely contact the company if I was not billed for something I bought.

Yeah...uh-huh.

I always missed those deals when they came up. :C

Anyway, I am getting a pair of 8x43 ZEN ED for $359. There is a $90 coupon (iFISH).

FrankD Thursday 15th January 2009 02:27

Nice tip Falcondude. Why do I get the impression that this isn't the first time that one of these coupon deals has come up.

Bushnell Legend Porros at Sportsman's Warehouse

The Sportsman's Warehouse stores here in Denver have the Bushnell Legend 8x42 porros for $69.97. They don't appear to sell through their website. But, if there is a store in your area, it is the best price I've seen. The 12x50 porros are apparently on sale also, but they are sold out here.

The 8x42's are normally $100 or more and are well reviewed by other forum members.

DHB Friday 16th January 2009 19:27

On occasion SW will really blow out some bino's. Waiting for Nikon LX or Leupold HD's....

FrankD Saturday 17th January 2009 02:15

I wouldn't mind picking up another Legend porro if they do eventually go the online route with them. Personally I have not found another bin that performs at their level for anywhere near close to that price.
