Shetland NOT Shetlands (1 Viewer)

Only just noticed this - I only ever check anything by New Posts or by Search Forums.

Mods please change the title.

There is no such place in the world as Shetlands as far as the inhabitants are concerned. Shetland or, if you want to make it clear that it is an archipelago, Shetland Isles, but never Shetlands.
 
When I first visited the Isles of Scilly back in the 1960s I was told never to refer to the Islands as the Scilly Isles. Isles of Scilly or Scillies were equally correct though. This seems to have fallen by the wayside now as I regularly here the Islands referred to as the Scilly Isles. Roger
