Can somebody help me in identifying this bird, if it is a Reed warbler or Great reed warbler? I understood that these 2 are really similar...

Thank you very much in advance,
Istvan

Thanks Andy!

If I try to remember, then I think you are right, it wasn't too big, if I try to remember, it was around 10 cm tall, or maybe a little bit bigger, not really sure. But I think then it is only a Reed warbler.

Thank you very much and regards,
Istvan

I'd agree! Hard to be sure with the bill open but it doesn't look substantial enough for Great Reed to me! Apart from the size, song ought to help, GRW much louder and always reminds me of frogs!

Thanks Chris,

Yes, I just compared their song, and the song of this bird was more like the song of the Reed warbler. Also I attached a picture with a closed bill, so yes, I think it is a Reed warbler for sure.

Thanks and regards,
Istvan

Hi Istvan,
Yes I can see the bill now! See this pic of GRW and you can see the difference, the bill is like a Thrush's (the Bulgarian name translates as Reed Thrush)!

Yes, I understand now. Thank you very much, Chris!
PS: Same in Hungarian, it also translates to Reed Thrush :)
