Colonel Boris' 2006 list
Ruddy duck + white headed duck hybrid
Great crested grebe
Lesser black-backed gull
Black headed gull
Little ringed plover
Great spotted woodpecker
110: Turtle dove - 22/07/2006, Richborough Castle, Kent.
111. Barnacle goose (probably feral, but I have no shame). Caversham Bridge, Reading.
112: Hobby, Moor Green Lakes, Berks. It seemed to be having fun buzzing the lapwings and dining on some of the vast number of dragonflies present. Spotted both times by my brother, who seems to have 'raptor sense'.
113 Woodlark: flock of ~25, Yateley Common South, 05/09/2006
114 Redstart: Just the one, same place as above.
115 Whinchat, Yateley Common South, while looking for the county recorder and some woodlarks. One male, one female, good views as they were in a dead tree ~ 40 m to the side of the path.
116 Green sandpiper, Hanningfield Res., 17/09/06
And 116.5 (not a real tick...) White wagtail in the same place
117 Grey partridge, Yateley Common South, 21/09/2006
Whew - good week.
118 Grey plover (~30-odd in winter plumage) at Pagham Harbour, 25/09/06
119 Mediterranean gull, Selsey Bill, 25/09/06 (lifer!): Photo 1
120 Wheatear, Selsey West Beach, 26/09/06: Photo 2
121 Turnstone (winter plumage), Selsey Bill (about 40 - see photo 3 for some of them), 26/09/06
122 Razorbill (winter plumage), Selsey Bill, 28/09/06 (lifer!): Photo 4
123 Great black-backed gull, two adult, one 3rd winter, Selsey Bill, 28/09/06: Photo 5
Not too shabby...
Edit reversed the photo numbers...
124: Common gull, Lodmoor RSPB 18/10/2006. At a distance, but a nice view with beak and legs showing very nicely.
125: Golden plover, 29/10/2006 at Pagham Habour.
126: Ringed plover, Ryde, IOW, 01/11/2006.
127: Bar-tailed godwit, same place.
128: Sanderling, same place.
129: Avocet, Farlington Marshes, 11/11/2006 - and a lifer, too.
130: Red-brested merganser, River Exe, Topsham, 03/12/2006.
I don't think we'll count the falcated duck just yet.... ;)
