It is that time of year again where I start planning to do some birdwatching between my week of meetings. I have two weekends (plus day of arrival) to play with. I am staying in Tachikawa and working in Akishima. You can see other posts I have done on Japan to see sites, I have already visited.

I have still to sit down and decide on exactly where I will go. A place I am adding to the list is Watarase Retarding Basin in Tochigi-Machi. Looking at reports, Lesser Cuckoo, should hopefully be there, and also meant to be a good sit for Japanese Marsh Warbler. Also, the Nogi-shrine nearby apparently has Ural Owl, so worth a look in.

The useful website I found is Japan-Birding who offer tours, but also publish trip reports. This is very useful to scan through for what species expected as it is specific for that day.

I will update with other ideas I am having to visit (all by public transport).
