Quite close to where I live there are three lakes, one of about 5 acres connected by a narrow neck of water to one of ten acres and another unconnected of about ten acres.

The population at the moment consists, Graylags, Canada Geese (both these species appeared in the last week or so), Mallard, Coots, Moorhens and three pairs of GC Grebes + one spare Male GC.

The pair of GC’s on the smaller lake have built their nest and yesterday morning spotted her turning three eggs. Question, is this too early in the year for brooding and what their chances of a successful hatch are.

Thanks for looking

Brian
