I was looking for a 10x50 pair of binoculars to replace my old (and out of collimation) jenoptem 7x50 for astronomy use,as I now believe that 10x is more suitable for stargazing and I also wanted a more compact and waterproof design.
The Helios 10x50 AM-6 comes with a very nice vinyl case and is much cheaper than equivalent models from Opticron,Nikon or Pentax.
It\'s very light-weight at 720g and has a very pleasant in-hand feel, comfy with a nice grip, they feel solid and very well built.
They deliver a good overall optical performance, the views only starts to look softer after 3/4 of the FOV.
As far as sharpness is concerned,I\'d say that they are somewhere between my Zeiss Victory 10x25 and a Nikon Sporter 8x36,not as sharp as my old 7x50 Jenoptem either, but still quite good. The edge of field is well defined.
The only problem (if it was really one) is some CA,clearly there around white objects or during high contrastviews.It\'s not awful,it remains controlled but if you want to purchase these binoculars I think that you should know about it.There is much more CA than with my Victory compact for instance.
Overall I think that this is very good value for money (for a roof) and gives good views.
Don\'t expect it to deliver high-end,razor sharp.CA-free views as high-end or very good porros would, but it doesn\'t come far behind.
I am very pleased with them considering the price (since I was not ready to spend 380 for a Pentax DCF SP) and I would definitely recommend them.
