Pros
  • great at its current price, quite sharp throughout its range when stopped down a little.
Cons
  • narrow manual focus ring, small flimsy switches, inconsistent results,
at its current lower uk asking price (if you look around) this lens is a bargain for birding on a budget.
quite sharp through its range, gets a little better when stopped down a little.
results can be inconsistent so take a few shots of your subject for insurance.
this lens needs good light ut dislikes backlit subjects.
bokeh can range from good to rather harsh.
needs the dock to realise its os and af performance.
i used this lens for a year and enjoyed my time with it until i moved on to the nikon 200-500vr which is my birding lens of choice atm.

Pros
  • cheap, reasonably sharp at 300mm
Cons
  • zoom creep. performance at 300mm+
terrible zoom creep. if it creeps with af engaged you cannot simply zoom the lens back to 135mm with one turn as it will stop unless you fiddle with the focus, rather frustrating. poor iq at 400mm.

Pros
  • light, sharp, VR
Cons
  • wont take a teleconverter
i have used this lens for about 3 years. light, compact, sharp through its range, but at its best stopped down to f8-f11 in good light at the long end. vr is effective, af reasonably quick.

Pros
  • sharpness, tripod collar, internal focus, build, performance with 1.4tc
Cons
  • weight,
pin sharp, works well with the sigma 1.4tc. balances well on its mono/tripod collar. great for butterflies and dragonflies.
i also have the 60mm and 105mm micro nikkors and this is as sharp as either.
as with all macro lenses you have to learn proper technique to get the best results.
