Hi, I would like to know, for the Kite Lynx 8x30:
- does it have phase correction?
- what is the exact (measured from the eyepiece, not from the lens of course) eye relief?
- what is the exact magnification? (Dito: measured)
And, most important: what is the FOV, measured in degrees.
One pays 90% of the price for really great FOVs, but very few brands indicate them. And many are still wrong. E.g. Nikon gave 70 for their superb 8x30 EII, and the real FOV ( or AOV? ) is but 67, that is still very much.
The FOV given in meter/km does mean nothing unless the exact magnification is known.
Kite does give 151m, I dont know if this value has been measured, but anyway it doesnot mean much unless the exact value of the mag. is known. Someone in this forum gave 7,8, does anyone have measured it?

Pros
  • Super-wide field of view; large sweetspot; excellent sharpness, contrast and colour; small and light, very bright for a 30mm objective, rugged and well made
Cons
  • Very few -- some reflections in difficult light -- but nothing excessive -- no "stop" positions on the twist up eyecups
The Kite Lynx really surprised me -- it is a very accomplished all-round binocular in a compact, lightweight package that performs to the very highest level and at a price that, while not cheap, is excellent value for a binocular of this calibre.

Love the wide field of view, colours are perfect, the dielectric phase-coated prisms deliver a really bright view despite the comparatively small objective lens. I actually grabbed the Lynx HD instead of my main Swarovski SLC HD binoculars occasionally for a tramp around the local patch -- they're that good.

The Kites would make a superb travel or safari binocular, but more than that they'd make a fantastic all-round birding and wildlife binocular for anyone who wants something a bit smaller and lighter than full-size bins, without compromising in terms of overall performance.

Great job by Kite.

Pros
  • nice and small, light, very bright, excellent contrast and field of view
Cons
  • none
As one that enjoys foreign birding holidays, and being mindful of restrictions on weight on airlines, I was on the lookout for small, light binoculars, so ,on reading a timely review in BirdWatch Magazine(Jan.14). I ordered a pair of Kite Lynx HD 8x30 with help from Alpha Optical Distribution Ltd.
I must say that after testing it in field conditions of a wet dreary February day ,the performance surpassed my expectations: its light weight (though sturdy feel), excellent field of view and light transmission prompts me to right this review. I can highly recommend these binoculars.
