Monarch ATB 8x42

Nikon Monarch 8x42 binoculars
Manufacturer
Nikon

Item details

Good, solid binocular for birders of all skill levels. The Nikon Monarch ATB 8x42 do well in any field setting whether you're in the woods, field birding, or hawk watching. They are light weight, durable, and dependable. I recommend Monarchs to any birder I talk to. The only problem I have had with these binoculars was the eye cups breaking. With a 25 year warranty, I sent the binoculars back to Nikon and they were fixed free of charge.

Pros
  • Brilliant clarity, extremely lightweight, quick focus, fantastic eye relief
Cons
  • Pathetic eyecups, slightly dull on the edges
Since the binoculars i owned before this one was a nikon travelite 12x25, this pair was heavenly for my eyes. Good FOV(though i have heard that its a bit on the lower side) at 6.3 apparent and 110 ft absolute. Has some form of dielectric coating (absent from many bins at this price range). Its best feature is that it is extremely light. Moreover it has a 19.6 mm eye relief and a a 5.3 exit pupil, its the best for eyeglass wearers. The carry case could have been better. Does not give a panoramic view so not exactly recommended for recreational viewers. Nevertheless awesome product, definitely the best at its price range. Never had the opportunity of testing it against a leica ultravid or a swarovision, but i heard it comes close to their clarity at 1/4 th their price.
