Swarovski NL Pure 8x32 (Green) A Brief Review

Item details

Having had many Alpha binoculars over the last 40 years or so at last I have found my personal favourite. Recently I tried an SF 8x32 and an NL 8x42 and for my taste they are not as pleasing as the NL 8x32. I also tend not to go for higher magnification, this being due to the fact that I prefer a steadier image and I have found that with10x or more I struggle to actually see more detail, although I have enjoyed an EL 8.5x42 in the past.
The NL 32 is not small, but that is the very reason I like it, I find compact 32's too small in the hand and prefer, what I consider to be a more compact version of the NL42 model, it feels just right for my hands with the added bonus of being more lightweight whilst having a similar image. Personally I really like the FieldPro system, I find I spend less time fiddling around with tangles and very much like the protection the lens covers give.

The image quality of course is what it's all about and I can honestly say that I have never been wowed quite as much as I have with this binocular! I'm a spectacle wearer and have previously spent too much time trying too find the full picture without the dreaded blackouts. I'm lucky with the IPD set fully closed and I am able to bring the oculars up to my eyes and experience an immersive image immediately, and that's with Varifocals! I haven't experienced rolling ball effect with this instrument and find the FOV and lack of CA very pleasing.

To sum up, I can appreciate that statistically this binocular may not have the widest field of view and be the lightest and smallest 32mm binocular on the market, but one thing I can honestly say is that it brings a huge smile to my face and to me that's what really matters.

Thanks for that review. Most 32mm roofs don't work for my hands either, so the larger size wouldn't bother me as long as I could wrap my hands around the barrels like I can the 8x32 EDG for a comfortable, steady grip. For me, ergonomics are as important as the optics.

Question: How well does the 8x32 NL control veiling glare? I found that to be the "fatal flaw" of the 8x32 EL. Since Swaro discontinued the 32 ELs, I'm guessing it's because they fixed that issue with the NL and went beyond it with an even more spectacular view.

Hi, thanks for your message. I find my hands wrap nicely around the barrels on th NL. As for glare, I can honestly say that I haven’t experienced any, but then in the past I have tried the EL 32 and couldn’t then either.
I’ve never known there being so many different experiences from the subject of binoculars and can only say that it would be worth trying the NL32 for yourself.
