I'm not doing the bird count in that area, but we do have a hawk there just two weeks ago that is not a red tail.

I will definitely carry it separately in a case...

I will definitely carry it separately in a case in the car from now on . That way the mount is checked every time it goes on the tripod.

That's a surprise. I did not realize there was any difference in the Eastern part. I will go out in May, and other than spring yellowrumps, I expect to see Nashvilles and Yellow warbler first.
