Hmm - would an Opticron top of the range binocular with 30 year warranty be better? Swarovski would service it for a long time for sure.

Opticron ES100 with either of their zooms will get you to 80x power. Now in mark IV guise. Kimmo did a review on an earlier version and deemed it a worthy, capable if heavy scope. Not mega expensive...

I don't know if the SLC has a locking mechanism...

I don't know if the SLC has a locking mechanism which stops the dioptre adjustment from popping up accidentally like the SV's, but if it doesn't it may get that upgrade.

Seem decent. I believe these are similar to the RSPB Harriers which I've looked through and are good for the money. The youtube review I linked to was impressed with them too.
