Royal Terns? - New Jersey shore (Spring Lake)

My first opportunity to photograph terns on the ground. Thought they may be Royal Terns, but the black wing tips throw me off a bit (immature?) Any feedback is appreciated.

Juvenile Northern Mockingbird? Brown Thrasher? Something else? / Melanie Lane Wetlands, Morris Cty NJ

In my area there definitely more catbirds. And seen/heard them in the area where I took the pictures all the time, including on the day. In contrast, this would be a first time seeing a mockingbird there (but they are widespread in the general surrounding area).

Willow Flycatcher? / Melanie Lane Wetlands, Morris Cty NJ

Right, 'bad' enough to have to deal with Empidonax identification alone, don't need Phoebes masquerading too :)

Willow Flycatcher? / Melanie Lane Wetlands, Morris Cty NJ

I totally missed out on the beak color, among others, for sure!

Willow Flycatcher? / Melanie Lane Wetlands, Morris Cty NJ

Hi all, Would you be kind to offer your opinion, was wondering if pictures alone allows identification in this case. No sound was available. Thank you in advance

Juvenile Northern Mockingbird? Brown Thrasher? Something else? / Melanie Lane Wetlands, Morris Cty NJ

I am trying to identify two birds, I believe the veterans will quickly solve the first one for which I got a good shot. 1. Bird seemed a little larger than a mockingbird (compare to fire hydrant) but I could be wrong, I was at some distance and inside the car. That's the first thought I...

Gull and Wader ID - Japan

The closest in the third picture might be Semipalmated Sandpiper. I see these together with sanderlings a lot nowadays in NJ (as well as Semipalmated Plovers, NOT in pictures of this post)

    1. some kind of vireo vs flycatcher? 2. Yellow warbler? Morris Cty NJ (Melanie Lane Wetlands)

I took these photos a few days ago 1. First bird looks to me like a Gray or Plumbous Vireo (but they aren't on the east coast so it must be something else). Eye ring seems too pronounced for a flycatcher, so ..need help! 2. Second bird think it's a yellow warbler but poor shot. The...

Juvenile Merganser? New Jersey - Morris County (Troy Meadows Wetlands)

Beak shape and a bit of a crest made me think of merganser (common, red breasted, hooded?), maybe juvenile. But doesn't seem convincing.. Your opinion?

empidonax or something else? New Jersey - Morris County

Today I was in the same (marshy) area and managed to get these shots. I want to call the bird "willowish" flycatcher, until the veterans tell me it's not :) Don't know how close in time (within 10 min anyway) but Merlin Sound ID had a Willow Flycatcher in the list so I started there and looks...

New Is there a field guide ("bible") most birders agree is best?

Leucistic/albino red winged blackbird? New Jersey - Morris Cty

Unfortunately, no audio was available, shot taken from far away (hence grainy photo). Glad I wasn't off too much with my guess.

Leucistic/albino red winged blackbird? New Jersey - Morris Cty

Came across this bird in a marshy area (Troy Meadows Wetlands in Parsippany NJ) General appearance makes me think about a red winged black bird, only white (albino/leucistic?). Did find some support for the theory but this is just a beginner's wild guess based on a biased search...

empidonax or something else? New Jersey - Morris County

I do not, I have only been using allaboutbirds.com and if that is not enough then this forum. Maybe I should buy a good field guide.

empidonax or something else? New Jersey - Morris County

I just threw that thought in, not as a suggestion for action, but honored! ("asking for too much" was meant figuratively) I imagine now such a project would be difficult since light, sharpness, color processing, etc is different between pictures.

empidonax or something else? New Jersey - Morris County

Yes, was thinking to just call them all flycatchers for now :)
