Cillana 2021 List - southeast Texas

I haven't done a year list in a while. At the beginning of this year I thought "Sure, why not?" I'm not restricting the list to sightings in southeast Texas. I just don't plan to go anywhere else this year. I live in Tyler County, TX. Our property is lakefront so I get a lot of water loving...

Tropical Kingbird? SE Texas fallout April 2016

Seen April 28, 2016 during fallout trip to SE Texas coast (Jefferson Co.). I had this bird marked down as a Western Kingbird, but looking back at my photos, I think I got it wrong. Someone on Facebook suggested that it was a Tropical Kingbird.

Thanks for your interest Fulmar. Unfortunately due to chronic health issues I don't get out as much as I would like. Still hanging out in bed recovering from my long overdue birding trip on Thursday. Couldn't have done it without my mom. She is so awesome. We saw 85 species and I got 13 lifers...

    Western Tanager

I saw one of these beauties in very far east Texas the other day. There is a male hanging out in a patch of mulberry trees in Jefferson County south of Port Arthur. A friend in Tyler County had a female at his feeders a couple years ago. He sent me the photo asking for an ID. Took a while to...

Very late update! Haven't been on this site in quite a while. Got two new lifers early this year. Heard about a sighting of at least two Vermilion Flycatchers at one of my favorite places to visit in the winter so I HAD to go see them. Got a bonus second lifer during the trip, but didn't manage...

Still haven't been able to make a trip any further than Lake Livingston State Park (about 20 min away). But apparently I don't have to leave my hometown to get lifers! Blackbird in Yosemite NP, California, USA

From what I know, they can only cover the top part to cover the red. So the yellow should be visible if they are covering to be non-threatening to other males. It would seem that this is a bicolored then. Here's some illustrations: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/Page.aspx?pid=1807

E Screech Owl call in daytime?

I've never seen a nest hole, fledglings, etc. So I don't know the timing here. One of my FB friends lives in New Orleans, Louisiana and he has a pair that lives near him and they usually fledge around May 10.
