Female not present when i passed the nest site twice today Michael - may be coincidental, but i suspect she has deserted the nest. However a male Redstart feeding chicks only 50 yards away from our other nest site - unless the original site chicks have fledged and he's still feeding them?

Hi Michael - This is becoming increasingly frustrating, i've recently seen photos of the birds at this site which look as though they have been taken from the 'other' side of the fence, in front of the nest box shooting upward, it beggars belief when the easiest place to get shots is from within...

The Tawny Owl that my mate Michael and I are watching has got at least 2 chicks that must have hatched in the last few days - the male bird just sat in a nearby tree while i watched from my car - fantastic experience. Also had a nice pair of male redstarts on the fringes of an oak woodland that...

Why is it that when you manage to connect with something posing for the camera the sky is flat grey - cracking views of this 'little un' east of Durham.. Wished there had been a bit of blue sky behind him :-C

Thanks Mark - was a great sight, but the thing that pleased me the most was how much the residents love the kites, they talked about them with so much affection, knew a lot of the tag numbers by name - they obviously have done their homework.

    Durham Birding

Had a great afternoon in the company of 15 of Gateshead's Red Kites. I have known for a while that some of the locals feed the birds and today i found one of the streets where it actually happens. Had a natter with a couple of the residents and realised that there are a few of them that...
