    Seaford Head

Lovely morning at Seaford Head, cold but sunny, though the thermal sweatshirt was looking like a mistake by the end of the morning! Big numbers of Meadow Pipits, Swallows and Housemartins, lots of Chiffchaff, a few Wheatears and Yellow Wags, Peregrine, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk were the raptors on...

The highlight of a walk around Seaford Head and the Cuckmere Valley was finding a Wryneck on the west side of the Cuckmere. A few Wheatear, a couple of Whinchats and not a lot else on what was a generally slow morning, very muddy as well!! More pictures on the blog at the link below, was a...

    Week in Wales

Spent last week in Wales, weather started badly but improved by the end. On the first dry day we headed up to Anglesey, the rain stopped 5 miles from South Stack and we had a nice day watching Choughs, Kestrels and some Rizzo's Dolphins although they were distant, so pics are poor!!! One thing...

    Patching Hurstpierpoint

A sad day on the Patch when a favourite area for the Yellowhammer has been grubbed out, I don't know why, but has been done at some point between the 1st of April and today, the dry pile of what's left suggests it was done a couple of months ago which would be in the middle of the breeding...

ID Required South Stack Anglesey please

We saw between 3 or 4 of these a long way off South Stack today. They more, jumping out of the water and crashing down rather then porpoising, I did see some other dolphins a bit closer in that I think were Common Dolphins but the ones in the pictured seemed different and were behaving...

    Patching Hurstpierpoint

A few pics from the Garden and a very quiet walk along the South Downs Way nearby, which apart from a very showy Yellowhammer was pretty birdless! More pics on the blog at the link! https://birdsandcake122.blogspot.com/2024/08/quiet-weekend.html Yellowhammer Think the bird below, from the...

    Oare Marshes

Was hoping to see the Black-crowned Night Heron that has been at Oare Marshes, unfortunately after an hour n a half drive, I arrive at 5.16Am to find the bird went to roost at 5.09AM which was a tad annoying. However Oare is always good, Bonaparte's Gull, Little Gull, Barn Owl, Curlew Sandpiper...

Birding Sites- A Green Sand Redux.

Think I would rather run into a company of Doggers than a Dogwalking company at least they stay near the cars and are less likely to bite you!!!

Walk on the Downs last Sunday, Corn Buntings, couple of Ravens, family of Stonechats, lots of Whitethroats and plenty of "Chifferllows" christened thus because my better half couldn't tell the difference between Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs. Nice to see my first Blue Butterflies of the year...
