Re behaviour, I've certainly seen Rattling on the ground as well as up in trees, so I wouldn't go too much on that. I'm not saying they're definitely Rattling though!- Larry Sweetland

Near misses on bird trips
I was in a bus crash in Ecuador where people died. The brakes failed and it rolled onto its roof. I was battered but managed to go birding the next day.- Larry Sweetland

I guess the ultimate is to insist on going out birding after you're dead. You could do a deal with the other birders on your patch, so that when one of you is too dead to physically take yourself out birding, the others could dig you up and drag you down to your local patch if a patch tick turns...- Larry Sweetland

I believe this is a great tailed grackle
It's a Jay. Great-tailed Grackles don't occur in Europe, they live in America. Last year there was (famously) a single Great-tailed Grackle that turned up in Pembrokeshire, presumably having arrived on a boat. It's something that had never happened before.
