Teesside. Cowpen Bewley: At least 4 Grasshopper Warblers, white throat, black cap, Chiffchaff, willow warbler, robin etc during our walk, also orange tip, white, peacock and small tortoiseshell butterflies. Dormans: Birds seen and heard were Sedge, willow & reed warblers, Barnacle goose... -

Visit to Clara Vale & Far Pastures, yesterday: Very much the usual at Clara, other than a distant black cap, other birds included jay, stock dove, g.s woodpecker,coal, willow, blue, great and l.t tit, greenfinch, chaffinch, bullfinch, chiffchaff, wren, heron, kingfisher & the usual ducks etc... -

A few from Dormans Pool today, Grasshopper warbler showed well, other birds seen, Sedge warbler, reed bunting, wren, goldfinch, blue & great tit, swallow, house martin and distant black cap. -

Rainton Meadows Few shots from today, good number of sand martins about, willow warbler, chiffchaff, mallard with 7 ducklings and the usual stuff. -

First Wheatear of the year at South Shields today. Other birds Meadow pipits, reed bunting, goldfinch, skylark, Cormorants, eider and single guillemot near the pier. -

A few shots from Clara Vale, yesterday. King Fishers were very active, chasing, passing fish and mating, but although great to watch, to distant and dull for pics. Also good selection of the usual birds + sparrow hawk through twice. -

The Dales - Yesterday Buzzard, kestrel, distant red kite, dipper, grey & pied wagtails, meadow pipits, skylark, red & black grouse, swallow, curlew, chiffchafff, golden plover and the usual, more commmon birds. Called at Pow Hill and was lucky enough to see a single male crossbill, siskin, tree... -

South Shields - Today Purple Sandpiper, turnstone, meadow & rock pipit, cormorant and sanderling near the pier area. Called at Souter and was pleased to see razorbill, kittiwake and fulmar, all claiming there position on the cliffs etc, ready to breed. -

Rainton Meadows - Today Lots of the usual stuff about, including reed bunting, tree sparrow, singl great crested grebe, 2 shell duck, at least 4 snipe on the island but well hidden, cormorant, lapwing etc. Also saw my first chiffchaff of the year. -

The Dales Yesterday: Mixed weather, rain, Sleet, snow, wind etc, but managed to see, Dipper, goosander, song thrush, redwing, fieldfare, pied & grey wagtail, curlew, red & black grouse, kestrel,meadow pipits, lapwing and the usual gulls, pheasant etc. And Sunday lunch at the Langdon Beck. 8-P -

Washington WWT At least 8 Avocet on the wader lake and the usual shell duck, lapwing etc. Tree Creeper, long tailed tit, bullfinch etc from the other hide. -

I was at the shore lark location on Monday and didn't see any sign of the birds, we walked as far North as the Pier and South as far as the newly scraped ground. Still worth a look IMO. -

Hartlepool: 3 x Skylark near the Jewish Cemetery, no sign of any Shore Lark. Guillemot and GC Grebe from the pier area and the usual eider etc. Knot, ringed plover, turnstone, med gull near Newburn Bridge. -

Over the Dales, yesterday: Plenty black grouse around the Langdon Beck area, also quite a few flocks of golden plover, also thrush, distant kite, buzzard, lapwing and the usual red grouse etc. Called in at Pow Hill on the way back, saw M & F crossbills, high in the trees, also the usual Tits... -

3 or 4 hours at Clara Vale this morning: Plenty about, including, kingfisher, g.s woodpecker, tree creeper, tree sparrow, nuthatch, jay, stock dove, willow,great, blue,coal & l.t tit, pheasant, yellow hammer, thrush, blackbird, bullfinch, chaffinch, grey heron, mallard, coot, moorhen. Also... -

Saltholme Called at Saltholme today, hoping to get closer views of the Penduline Tits, but no joy. Had to settle for the Redpolls and record shot of the Smew from Paddy's Hiide. -

Teesside - Yesterday Called to see if the Scaup was still about at Cowpen Bewley, Luckily, it was and took about half a loaf to coax it close enough for photos. Called at Saltholme and managed a couple of very distant pics of the Penduline Tits, from the Wildlife Watch Point. Finished at... -

South Shields - Today First thing we encountered at the pier, was a cormorant, which had a fishing hook and line in it's lower bill, awful to watch as it struggled, trying to free itself, still trying when we left. 2 x snow buntings on the beach with 2 pied wagtails. Walked towards Frenchman's... -

Cowpen Bewley Woodland Park Distant Scaup and female goldeneye on the main pond, also the usual swans, ducks and gulls + 2 cormorant. Plenty of life at the feeders, including, bullfinch, yellow hammer, reed buntings, couple of GS woodpecker and the other usual robin, blackbirds, tree sparrows... -

Hartlepool Today Plenty Parakeets at Ward Jackson Park, Muscovy Ducks & the usual coots etc. At least 15 RB Merganser at the marina, but no sign of the Glaucous during our brief visit. -

Hartlepool today A look around the Jewish Cemetery area, 4 snow buntings and 3 shore lark, everything pretty flighty. Just the usual on the headland so tried the marina, where I managed a quick glimps of the glaucous gull before it was disturbed.
