    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Paul, Whether you intended it or not, that was possibly the most helpful thing anyone has written in answering the question which I started this thread to answer (even if I wasn't originally sure what I wanted to know ;) )! 🤣

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Yes, exactly. I guess if you're tripod mounted without an easily adjustable tilt head then looking towards the edges will be inevitable, but why anybody would choose to look at a subject at the field stop with a handheld binocular is beyond me. Of course a large sweet spot so that one can look...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

This also raises (again) the issue of whether anyone actually looks at things at the field stop (apart from checking that all important 'edge to edge sharpness') or whether, in practice, you actually just move the binocular! I think some claim that edge sharpness increases apparent...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

I think this explains well why I find the view of flat field bins inherently unnatural (although I’m sure they can vary in the degree of this unnaturalness). As others have said, it’s more like looking at a poster than at the real world.

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Wide FOV is one of the main reasons for 7X on the water. Very often one is searching for markers and you have a vague idea where they should be but not a precise one. That (and stability) is why 10X is no good - you need to be able to find what you're looking for ASAP and 7X will find it quicker...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

I’m probably in a minority of one here, but I would much rather Leica produced a 7x50 UVHD+. Now that would be something! For now though the 7x42 is the best compromise available IMHO (and needs, uses etc).

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

But seriously, I might consider buying them if the price was right (I'd have to pay import tax......) if you'd consider sending them to Finland?

    You’re tempting me! Ha!

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Tom, I have/had the same problem with my 12x50 HD+ (which is partly why I had two examples to compare at one point). I had just set the diopter to zero and assumed that to be the correct setting (as it is for me on my other four Leica bins). I just couldn't work out what the problem was until...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Thanks everyone for the great input on this thread so far! I’ve decided that I will just keep my present lineup for now. It’s hard to justify adding either the 8x32 UV+ or the 7x35 Retrovid when I already have a 7x42 UV+. My trusty 10x25 BCA’s fulfil the role of something (truly) small and...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

@ZDHart, Is the FOV difference very noticeable in practice?

Thanks for that, @Brummie. I look forward to your observations over the coming days.

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Thanks for your thorough and helpful post @eitanaltman. Much appreciated! But dang - just as I had satisfied myself that I didn’t need the 8x32 UV after all! 😂 I think that ultimately the question boils down to whether the expense of exchanging my Trinovid 8x42 for the 8x32 UV is justified in...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Thanks for your helpful response. I’m sure that someone might think that I should change the 8x42 Trinovid 40008 for an 8x32 UVHD+, but nobody has suggested it so far.......! 😂 I think it would only make sense if I really needed the small weight/size of the 32, but I’d be interested if there...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Paul, Thanks for your input and suggestions. I was actually talking about the Trinovid 8x42 (40008). Here's an old thread about those Trinovids:- Trinovid

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

Thanks for all the input so far - always good to get experienced opinions. On reflection I think my real problem is that I already have a 2011-15 Trinovid 8x42 and a 7x42 UVHD+. The 7x42 is already so compact and light that I can hardly justify a 7x35 Retrovid except on the grounds of looks...

    8x32 UVHD+ vs 7x35 Retrovid

I’ve been following the recent threads on both of the above, but AFAIK there is no thread dedicated to a comparison of these two binoculars. One of the downsides to this wonderful site, which is full of interesting and useful information as well as a real sense of camaraderie, is that it can...
