    1980s Leitz 10x40BA N repair.

I have an old pair of Leitz 10x40BA N binoculars from the 1980s. Unfortunately one of the Objective lenses has got damaged (a fairly deep scratch). I am having difficulty finding anyone that has a lens available to replace it. Any ideas or does anyone out there have an old damaged pair lying...

    Small Garden Warbler

I guess if it was at the 13cm end of the scale that would account for it.

    Small Garden Warbler

Yes it was smaller than a Dunnock. I completely agree about perceived size but I have been a birder for over 60 years and have not lost my marbles yet ;) I know that it is a Garden Warbler but I am just curious about its origins and size and wondered if anyone had encountered one like this. PS...

    Small Garden Warbler

I've had this Garden Warbler around my garden in NE Scotland for the past four days. Firstly Garden Warblers in November are very unusual this far north and secondly it is very small. My first sighting on 31/10 was very brief and I was thinking Lesser Whitethroat or Northern Chiffchaff. On...

A photo of it from a friend

    Semicollared Flycatcher?

When it flew the outer tail feathers were very obvious. The main problem against Semi is the white patch on the wing is not extensive enough.

    Semicollared Flycatcher?

In the garden at Rattray Head. The extra wing bar plus grey nape had me wondering.

    Predated bird leg ID

The outer toes on Common Snipe appear to be longer (nearly the same length as the middle toe) and the hind toe is longer on Common Snipe. Also Common Snipe leg has a yellowish tinge.

    Predated bird leg ID

Trawling through photos on the internet it is most likely to be from a Jack Snipe.

    Predated bird leg ID

This leg was found in NE Scotland under a tree where a Barn Owl regularly hangs out. I would guess that the bird was predated at night and I am thinking that it is probably a Snipe (or Jack Snipe) The middle toe is 2.75cm long.
