    Canon Powershot SX70 HS review

Hi robinlanark, I don't see a way for the lens cap we have to be directly clipped onto the neck strap. There is a string that attaches to the lens cap and the other end of the string is attached to the neck strap. It seems to work fine that way. It does swing and sway when using the camera, but...

Captured this image while paddling on the Rideau River, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, 2023 0827, please confirm whether it's a starling.

You probably don't need another confirmation, but yes, agree...Northern Flicker.

    Canon Powershot SX70 HS review

Birdieboy, We (my wife and I) purchased the Canon lens hood and did not purchase a filter. The Canon lens hood doesn't allow a filter. It hasn't been a problem yet, not having a filter... and let's hope it doesn't. But, that sounds like a great combination of lens hood and filter you have! Does...

How do you carry your binoculars?

Hi GDavis, Thanks for your thoughts and the testimonial on the RYO harness. I still haven't made a final decision on what I'm going to do. It is tempting to just use the neckstrap that came with it. Dennis

How do you carry your binoculars?

Hi Mike, Thanks for your comments, they are greatly appreciated. That Bino Shield looks interesting. But, is it only used with the binocular pack, or can it be used alone with a neckstrap/ harness? Interesting you mention the RYO harness for smaller binoculars. That is right up my alley with...

How do you carry your binoculars?

For What Its Worth: This is what I have been using. It is called a "Binocsock". It has been quite useful. (Those are my Nikon 8x42 LX binoculars.) The thing over the ocular lenses is a "Bino Bandit". It is nice to keep out stray light. And it just folds down and fits inside the "sack". The...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

Hi Brock, That is very useful information about tightening the bridge. It is much appreciated. The nameplate at the bottom of the hinge needs to be removed to get at the screw you mention. I have a concern about breaking that nameplate when trying to remove it. So, for the time being, I think...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

To all: Well, I received my good ol' 8x42 LXes back this morning (Thursday, March 29th). They are definitely the same pair that I had before because they have the scratch marks made on the inside of the bridge when I first bought them.... and they show the same serial number, too, of course...

Great thoughts and suggestions, too. ... appreciate you taking the time to comment. Leaning towards not getting a filter, but lens hood instead.... but we'll see.

    Canon Powershot SX70 HS review

To Anyone: I just purchased a Canon Powershot SX70 HS, but didn't purchase any accessories... any suggestions? It makes sense to purchase an extra lithium-ion battery pack... the Canon LP-E12 ... so, that is already on the list. I already had a SanDisk 64 GB Extreme SD Card. It doesn't seem...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

Well, the Nikon repair shop apparently found my old binoculars. So, I have the new HGs all boxed up (with a prepaid shipping label that Customer Support emailed to me), and ready to go out (via UPS). After they get the HGs, they will return my LXes....at least that is the plan at this point...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

Hi tenex, I believe the LX are of a flat field design. Other members here can give you a better answer as to the model sequence. I am still confused about the naming sequence. It seems especially confusing when the manufacturer calls a model by one name in the United States, but by another name...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

Hi Andy, Thank you for your reply. The thing about getting a different binoculars is that I don't know what I am going to be getting.... handling, optically, etc. With my Nikon LX binoculars I know what I had.... buttery smooth focus, etc. My brother had an 8x32 SE and we compared them one...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

Hi Arthur, Thanks for your input. Yes, I think you are probably right --- the purchase date probably had nothing to do with it. It just kinda sucks because when I sent them in, in 2015, they came back nice and clean and in good shape, but this time they sent me a different model. I wonder if...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

Hi Scott, I really appreciate your reply. IF I can't get them back, yes, I will have to consider my other options. That is really interesting about getting the Nikon EDG. Maybe, I did not understand him correctly, but it seems like Timothy W. (Nikon Customer Support) said that Nikon has...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

Hi Jerry, Thank you for your input. I called Nikon back this morning and was able to talk to Timothy W. in Customer Service and he was very understanding and helpful. He is checking into what happened to them and is going to get back to me. I'll post a message when I find out more. I...

    Nikon (Premier?) 8x42 replaced

I sent my Nikon 8x42 binoculars (see photo) in to Nikon for what I thought was going to be a routine cleaning and servicing. They needed cleaning on the outside (lenses) and the hinge needed to be tightened, but I didn't think they needed anything further than that. I wanted them to "check" the...

    Friend's Olympus binoculars need repair

Thanks for your comments, Bill. I will keep that in mind. I found where you commented about some other repair places and people that you recommend. It seemed useful to have those places handy for any future need, so I now have those bookmarked. My friend's binoculars are good enough for him...
